Crail Food Festival 2018

What a weekend! If it's possible to put on a stone in weight over one weekend I think I definately have! We decided not to rent out the holiday cottages this year for the food festival weekend and give ourselves a treat. We try to stay at different points throughout the year so that we know everything works, they beds are still comfy etc.

This year's festival had a new layout, it was split over three venues, the community centre, Beechwood park and the harbour and from our point of vew it was a real success. There was plenty to sample from all the stalls, my only problem was deciding what to have for lunch! I managed to whittle it down to some delicious looking Indian street food from Beechwood park, then we went down to the harbour and as soon as I smelt the Arbroath Smokies cooking I knew I had to have it! With some tactical queuing our party of 6 adults and 2 kids soon had Smokies, freshly cooked chips and Mac n Cheese toasties for the kids, what a winner!

We sampled Crail Gin, Clootie Dumpling, artisan bread, sublime ice cream, dreamy Creme Brûlée and the kids were entertained with stories, balloons, cookery workshops and music, happy kids = happy parents!

The real winner of the weekend had to be our dinner on Saturday night, we decided to have a "picnic" with goodies we'd purchased that day, the table was literally groaning with lobster, crab, more chips, oatcakes, local strawberries, raspberries, and a little wine!

The only way I was going to ever be able to eat again was to head out for a run on Sunday morning, one of my all time favourite things to do whilst we are staying in the house is to get up at the crack of dawn and head out for a run along the Fife Costal Path, just me, the dog and the most beautiful views. Although still weighed down with food and slightly leaden legs (nothing to do with the wine!) It is the best way to start the day.

Thank you so much to everyone who volunteers at the Food Festival, it's a fantastic weekend that only happens thanks to hours of hard work and dedication from a small team. I"m looking forward to next year already!
